This ring has ties to the women of my family. It’s been gifted by my grandmother to my mother on her 18th birthday, and later passed down to me. At 18, everyone in Poland is required to have an Identity Card if they’re living permanently in the country. Polish citizens living abraod are also entitled, but not required to have one. With 18 comes a host of new responsibilities and the ring becomes a mark of age in the form of a thin gold band.
